The Red Bulls (8-11-6, 30 points) are hoping they do not run out of time. They last missed the postseason in 2009, but have spent all season trying to catch up in the race and sit in 11th, seven points behind Montreal and DC United.
New York has scored six times in a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) that is one shy of its season best. The Red Bulls earned a 1-0 win at NYCFC on Saturday when Omir Fernandez scored in the 43rd minute and Carlos Coronel made four saves on a night they held possession for 35.1 percent of the match.
“We know that the few games that we have coming up are important ones and they are also the teams that are in front of us points wise,” New York defender Kyle Duncan said. “So, we know if we beat these teams, we will get back into that seventh spot or maybe even sixth spot or fifth spot.”
